Video Poker is a popular game that is able to be gambled on in casinos all over the world, or alternatively at home on your PC, through an Internet account. The game rules are very straightforward and involve the player trying to get the best mixture of cards achievable in order to win money. In this respect it’s much the same as a regular game of poker, minus the involvement with other players. Of course, methods used in a physical game of poker, like bluffing, will be irrelevant here.
The game of Electronic Poker starts when the bettor inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and pushes the play button. A hand of five cards will be "distributed" on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and gamblers will need to now pick which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they wish, from all to none.
After the gambler has chosen which cards he wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be given out. The game is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.
Normally, the lowest succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money getting larger for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the pay out schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable gamblers are agile enough to choose the most beneficial machine every instance.
After the initial round has finished, the player can either choose to remain on and try to to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that they may have won. Additionally, some versions of the game allow the bettor an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which situation a further round is played. There are also differences among specific games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other differing characteristics to enhance playability.
